Hellrung Park near Union Street and Central Avenue in Alton
was a flurry of activity Friday afternoon as a trackhoe and two
smaller tractors were busy landscaping the revamped park,
which features a skate park, center, and new playground
equipment. The new playground equipment replaced a gym set
that was destroyed by fire in July. Utility poles, wiring, lighting,
a walkway and child-decorated wall tiles still need to be installed.
The park is scheduled to open Sept. 30.
